Let’s Be Real—Sometimes We’re Just Too in Our Heads

You ever have one of those days where you feel like you’re floating six inches off the ground? Scattered thoughts, overthinking, tension buzzing in your limbs—like your body’s here but your energy’s not?

That’s a sign: you’re ungrounded.

As someone who’s lived in kitchens—on my feet, in motion, under heat—I’ve learned the hard way how important it is to come back down to Earth. After battling Lyme disease, surgery, and a complete life shift, grounding has become one of the most sacred practices in my daily life. It’s free. It’s simple. And it works.

What Does It Mean to Be Grounded?

Grounding is about connection—specifically, your energetic connection to the Earth.

When you’re grounded, your nervous system calms, your thoughts slow, and you feel anchored. It’s like plugging back in to your own power source. It brings your energy back to your body.

In spiritual work, we talk a lot about ascending, connecting to higher realms, expanding. But the truth is—if you’re not grounded, you’re just drifting. Healing starts from the roots up.

Earthing: Getting Your Feet in the Dirt

Let’s go deeper—literally.

Earthing is the practice of physically connecting your bare skin (usually your feet) to the Earth’s surface—grass, soil, sand, riverbanks. The Earth emits a subtle electrical charge. When you touch it, your body absorbs free electrons that help neutralize inflammation, regulate your circadian rhythm, and even reduce cortisol levels.

And no, this isn’t woo—it’s backed by science.

Just 10–30 minutes of barefoot time on natural ground can shift your entire system.

Simple Ways to Ground Daily

You don’t need a mountain retreat to ground your energy. Start where you are.

1. Go Barefoot Outside

Take off your shoes. Stand in grass. Let your feet actually feel the Earth. No phone, no distraction. Just breathe.

2. Sit With a Tree

Trees are deeply rooted. When you sit against one, you absorb that grounding energy.

3. Use Breath

Place your hand on your belly. Inhale through your nose, slowly count to 4, then exhale through your mouth to a count of 6. Imagine your breath going down into the Earth.

4. Salt Baths or Foot Soaks

Salt is naturally grounding. Add a handful of sea salt to warm water and soak your feet after a long day. Bonus: Add rosemary or lavender.

5. Cook Something with Your Hands

Chop, stir, knead—get tactile. Cooking with presence is one of the most ancient grounding rituals we still do daily.

Tools That Support Grounding

  • Crystals: Black tourmaline, hematite, smoky quartz.

  • Herbs: Ashwagandha, burdock root, dandelion.

  • Essential Oils: Vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood, sandalwood.

  • Foods: Root vegetables (carrots, beets, potatoes), nuts, proteins.

Why Grounding Matters—Especially for Healing

When I was deep in recovery from Lyme—pain in my hips, inflammation in my brain—I had to find ways to feel safe in my body again. Grounding was the first step.

It’s what helped me come back to myself.
Back to Earth.
Back to breath.
Back to center.

Because the truth is, healing doesn’t just happen up in the spiritual clouds—it happens here, in this body, on this Earth.

Closing Thoughts

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t need a guru. You just need to take your shoes off once in a while and feel the dirt between your toes.

When life feels overwhelming, when you’re spiraling, scattered, or stuck, start with this:

Get grounded.
Come home to your body.
Let the Earth hold you.

She’s been doing it all along.
